Peace & Compassion Ceremony

Monday, April 4th from 11:45 am to 12:15 pm


Common Ground 2022 kicks off with the opening ceremony on Monday, April 4 from 11:45 AM to 12:15 PM at the Founder’s Courtyard. The opening is hosted by the Chaplaincy Club. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served at the ED Patio.

Engaged compassion talk

Monday, April 4th from 3:30 to 5:20 pm


UWest welcomes Geshe Ngawang Sonam to speak in the CONT510 Engaged Compassion class. Geshe Ngawang Sonam is a modern Buddhist scholar and the English translator for H.H. the Dalai Lama. The talk will be live on Zoom. All are welcome.

Poetry slam, workshop event

Tuesday Workshop: Poet leads a workshop on how to write

poetry and guides students to create original pieces.

Learn to play or show your skills with mini-tennis rackets, nets, and foam balls. Prof. Avila will provide a brief lesson on techniques and rules, followed by match play, all equipment will be provided but supplies are limited so come early.

hISTORY OF THE eLECTRIC SLIDE

Learn the importance of the Electric Slide in the African American Community and how this modern interpretation of community dancing has become a standard at all multigenerational African-American social gatherings. Best of all you will learn the actual dance from professional dance choreographer Isla Maynard.

Migration, Mahayana, and Buddhist mobility: Vietnamese Buddhism in Taiwan

Dr. Cheng introduces the recent development of Vietnamese migration and Buddhist transmission to Taiwan. Utilizing recent fieldwork data, she considers the example of the Yu Lan festival to discuss different renderings and functions of the ritual within the Vietnamese Buddhist community in Taiwan.
